There are several ways, several methods, you can use to obtain the best and most delicious of juices. The first is to buy freshly pressed juice from a health store or juice bar, however, in the long run; this can be an expensive method. The second way is to purchase a good juicing machine yourself and make delicious fresh juice yourself each day. This method requires a larger initial financial outlay in the beginning.
What Is A Juicing Machine?
A juicing machine, also known as a juice extractor or simply a juicer is a machine which is able to separate the juice from the pulp of most fruits and vegetables. It is different from a blender in that it does not blend the pulp and juice together, but instead separates them, discarding the pulp. Most juicers these days are electric which makes them faster and more efficient to use than their older manual counterparts.
There are three main types of juicers available.
The centrifugal juicer is the most common one available on the market as well as generally being the most affordable. It works by first grating or grinding the fruits and vegetables together. It then pushes the resulting pulp through a strainer so as to extract the maximum amount of juice. During the straining process, the pulp is pushed up against the strainer using a centrifugal force with a very high RPM. The centrifugal juicing method is very fast, which makes it a popular choice. However, centrifugal juicers aren’t very effective at extracting juice from leaves and grasses such as wheat germ. Additionally, this method does not extract all the juice from the pulp meaning a lot is wasted. Juice extracted using the centrifugal method has a fairly short shelf life. Because such a high RPM is required to extract the juice, a large amount of air is included. This air causes the juice to spoil very quickly which means that juice extracted using this method should be consumed immediately.
Also known as single gear or single auger juicers, they use a single gear to break up the plant cells by literally chewing up or masticating the fibres of the fruits and vegetables. This results in more juice being released as well as a higher concentration of the vitamins and minerals contained in the fruit and vegetables. Most masticating juicers are capable of extracting the juice from leaves and grasses such as parsley and other herbs. Additionally, since they work at a slower speed than the centrifugal juicers, less air is incorporated which means that the juice extracted using this method will last for a few days in the refrigerator.
These are the most efficient, as well as the most expensive juicers. Also known as twin gear juicers, these machines run at even slower speeds than the masticating juicers. This means that fewer nutrients are destroyed from the heat caused by the rotating gears. Additionally, since less air is included, the juice lasts longer when kept in the fridge.
Determining which juicer is the best depends entirely on your needs. For just one person, who wishes to enjoy fresh juice each day, the centrifugal juicer might be the best option. However, if you want juice with the highest nutritional quality, the triturating juicer may be the best option for you.
